Prayers of Perseverance
We live in a culture of short term success over long term perseverance, convenience over breakthrough, a good thing over a God thing. Don’t get me wrong, I love when God answers my prayers quickly, but sometimes prayers take longer and with more fervency, than we expect or want.
“The thing with fervent prayer is that you don’t need to know why, you just don’t stop. It is not prayer to ease my conscious, it is the kind of prayer that comes from a conviction that God’s will must be done.” - Bill Johnson
Have you ever prayed for something that seemed impossible? That is me. This year the Lord put on my heart a big, bold prayer. And though I am still praying for it, God has been revealing His heart and process time in the sweetest way.
Here are three things we should do to keep us praying persistent and fervent prayers:
1- Go back to what you know.
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:23
Make a list of God’s track record and the times He has been faithful to you. Rest in a place that God has never, and will never, let you down.
Once we reflect, we can see what He has taught us and where He has brought us. We’re not the same women we were a year ago, or even two weeks ago, so when we’re feeling dry - we can go back and see how mighty He has been in our lives.
The waiting also does not diminish us. There is purpose through the process.
Listen to what it says in Romans, “But that’s not all! Even in times of trouble we have a joyful confidence, knowing that our pressures will develop in us patient endurance. And patient endurance will refine our character, and proven character leads us back to hope. And this hope is not a disappointing fantasy, because we can now experience the endless love of God cascading into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who lives in us,.”
2- Trust more, not less.
“Trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understanding. In all ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
I am thankful for the things that happen simply. I do not like the notion that I have to pray even a few weeks for a prayer to be answered, so I love that we can pray simple and God answers.
For example, I heard on a podcast the other day of a pastor healing a person from back pain by simply saying, “be healed!” AMAZING! Or have you ever had a thought come into your mind, not even worthy of praying for, and then all of a sudden, it was answered?
Those simple prayers give us confidence to TRUST in the Lord’s nature. They are not supposed to teach us to be spoiled to only celebrate the quick answer. But because we know His nature, and His heart, we are more willing to stick with something until we see a breakthrough!
Trust Him to reveal His heart, to enlighten you through the process, and partner with you until the breakthrough comes.
3- Ask for God’s perspective.
“ If any if you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5
I believe if there isn’t immediate breakthrough in an area, it is becomes there are circumstances that are wrapped around that problem that we don’t yet know how to pull apart.
But He does. And we serve a God of process and He doesn’t want us to simply endure until breakthrough, but He wants to give us insight and knowledge about it!
So, ask Him! God isn't bothered by our prayers that question His plan. He will give us hope and strength in live to preserve and sustain until breakthrough.
My friend, allow him into the broken spaces, the doubts or confusion. Don't give up and don't be impatient. Never lose hope.
Keep on waiting, keep on praying, keep on fighting, keep on trusting for He will never disappoint you.
